2005年7月10日に打ち上げられた我が国５番目のX線天文衛星「すざく」は、打ち上げから4年を経た今も軌道上で順調に観測を続け、多くの科学的成果を生み出し続けています。
2009年6月29日〜7月2日に、最新の「すざく」の成果を集めた国際研究会を小樽で開催したところ、290名を超える出席者（外国人90名）が260件の成果発表を行い、これをもとに活発な議論が展開されました。

"In infrared, the impact site shows up in remarkable detail. "The structure of the impact site is eerily reminiscent of the larger Shoemaker-Levy 9 sites 15 years ago," remarked Heidi Hammel (Space Science Institute), who was part of the team that supported the effort at Gemini.
In 1994, Hammel led the Hubble Space Telescope team that imaged Jupiter when it was pummeled by a shattered comet.
"The morphology is suggestive of an arc-like structure in the feature's debris field," Hammel noted. "

2009年6月29日〜7月2日に、最新の「すざく」の成果を集めた国際研究会を小樽で開催したところ、290名を超える出席者（外国人90名）が260件の成果発表を行い、これをもとに活発な議論が展開されました。

In 1994, Hammel led the Hubble Space Telescope team that imaged Jupiter when it was pummeled by a shattered comet.
"The morphology is suggestive of an arc-like structure in the feature's debris field," Hammel noted. "
